The Bridport English School, Dorset, England

Courses

All courses start on a Sunday, when the students arrive, and finish on a Saturday, when most students leave.  However, the length of your course completely depends on your needs, you can stay for one, two or even four weeks, depending on what you feel is required.
We encourage a large range of social activities to help you integrate into the local culture, in addition to giving you an opportunity to practice your newly acquired language skills.  These can range from; a trip to London, Bristol or Southampton, an afternoon at the beach, bowling or a waterpark or a BBQ at the beach or local live music event.

Whatever your choice, you can be rest assured that your stay will be fun and exciting and you will learn a lot.

Adult Course

You can choose to study in a small group of students (up to 12 students in a group), or in a one-to-one lesson, with your own teacher. Or you can choose a combination of both, with a group lesson in the morning, followed by a one-to-one lesson in the afternoon.

Group Courses

Studying in a small group can be such an enjoyable way to learn, providing group work learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.

Group courses are offered at elementary, intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced levels in general English or specific English language skills.

Junior and Teenage Group Summer Courses

Junior Courses

All courses consist of 3 hours tuition in the morning, from 9.00am to 12.30pm, and the activities program in the afternoon.  Students can also choose to have additional one-to-one lessons in the afternoon instead of the activities.

One-to-One Programmes

Individual CoursesWhy study in a one-to-one environment?
Studying on a one-to-one basis allows you to have the full attention of your tutor, with no distractions of other students.  This means that your lessons become quite intense, it also means that your individual needs are immediately met.  Your teacher can build the lesson to suit you, he/she can ensure that your own particular mistakes are corrected.
Learning in a one-to-one environment is also perfect for the less confident learner.  It can often be daunting to ask questions and participate in a large class, but in a one-to-one lesson more timid students often feel more encouraged and confident.
Here at the Bridport School of English, we believe that all students are individuals and all have individual learning needs.  This is why every student will have an individually designed program which targets their strengths and weaknesses, therefore each course will be different.  We will also plan an activity based program to suit your individual interests and needs.
All One-to-One Courses include:

  • Induction and Welcome Pack
  • First day assessment test to ensure correct level
  • All tuition materials
  • A program designed around your own special interests and requirements
  • Recommendations for future study so you can continue to study when you get home
  • End of course certificate
  • E-tutorial support after your course

Adult English CourseTwo-to-One

Learning in a two-to-one environment is an exciting learning experience.  You gain the advantages of intensive student-teacher time, and full attention from your teacher, but you also gain the advantage of having a peer to learn with.  This can mean opportunities for group work, which you would not get in a one-to-one environment.

Adult learners

Individual CourseMany of our students at the Bridport School of English are adult learners and they come to us for a number of reasons.  Many choose to study with us to improve language skills which they gained as school children, to improve conversational skills to help them take holidays, or live in the UK, or to maintain high standards of English for work.

Whatever the reason, there are certain differences between adult and young learners.  Adults tend to choose more cultural leisure activities, visiting museums, city excursions and sites of historical relevance.  Also the lessons differ greatly.  During the lesson emphasis tends to focus on current affairs, taking listening exercises from radio news shows and reading from relevant newspaper articles.

Business English

Many mature students come to the Bridport School of English, wishing to improve their language skills for work.
We provide a specially tailor-made course for those wishing to use their skills in the work place.  The business course is tailored more specifically towards the adult leaner, with emphasis placed on business language, formal letter writing and British business etiquette.

If you choose to study on our business program, you will find yourself learning a huge amount in a short space of time.

We will also tailor your course for your specific work-based needs, looking at particular vocabulary and role-play activities that will be relevant for you.
