The Teachers
All the teaching staff are professionally qualified and experienced in their own areas of expertise. All tutors hold a first degree/masters degree and appropriate teaching qualifications and teaching English as a foreign language.
Martyn Pape – Director of Operations and Student Welfare
Martyn is a qualified and experienced teacher and lecturer, working with young people and adults in further and higher education. He has taught international students on Access to higher education courses successfully preparing students for UK Universities in the professions.
He has expertise in EFL, study skills, exam technique and business management. More recently he worked as a senior manager and director of teaching and learning in a large college. He has also taken part in college inspections and quality improvement programmes and was a registered Ofsted inspector.
Alex Tulji – ESOL Teacher
Alex is a TESOL qualified teacher who enjoys using individual and creative methods to help students progress in their English language learning. She also has a degree and a PGCE in History and taught History and Religious Studies in secondary schools for five years. She has travelled around Europe, America, Australia and parts of Asia and has experienced local language study and emersion through a one year charity placement in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Through active learning Alex encourages a natural and enjoyable approach to language acquisition.
Ingrid Catherall – ESOL Teacher
Ingrid read English Literature at St. Andrews University, Scotland, where she obtained her Masters degree. She is a qualified TEFL teacher and has taught young people and adults in schools and adult community centres for over 10 years. Ingrid is fluent in, Italian, German and French and has taught English in Brazil and Italy. She is able to teach using a range of methods which ensures that students get maximum learning in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. She enjoys teaching young people and adults from different nationalities who want to progress in developing their English language skills.
Charlie Francis-Pape – ESOL Teacher and Marketing
Charlie is a journalist and broadcaster with a successful career in local and national newspapers. She has a degree in Multi-Media Journalism and is currently taking a part time Masters degree. She has a TESOL Trinity Cambridge teaching certificate and has taught English in schools in Mexico and is fluent in Spanish. Charlie enjoys engaging with students of all nationalities and supports learning both inside and outside the classroom. She promotes collaborative learning in her teaching providing a relaxed yet professional approach. She is also the marketing manager for the Bridport School of English.
Juliet Lewis – ESOL Teacher
Juliet read English Literature at Cambridge University and stayed on for another year to take a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). She has taught English and Drama in several senior schools, both private and state schools, in and around Bristol where she lived for many years. She has travelled extensively in Africa, India and the South Pacific. She gained qualifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in order to teach while travelling. She has taught English to students of all ages from Europe, Asia and the Far East. She has worked with international students at Wellington Polytechnic in New Zealand and as Course Leader for the Oxford Intensive School of English, teaching young students from France and Spain.
